Description: | With the invention of dry photographic film and the development of the Kodak box camera in the late 19th century, the art of photography was opened up to the general public. However, for decades thereafter, film cameras required the use of darkrooms to develop their photographs. Specialized training and messy chemicals were required to produce prints from film negatives. The invention of the instant Polaroid camera after World War II enabled photographers to shoot pictures and view prints moments later, but Polaroid film was quite expensive. More recently, the invention of digital cameras and smartphones with cameras has made it easy for virtually everyone to shoot, enhance, print, and distribute pictures. |
